Ocean's Harbor House
Harbor House was founded in 1985 to create a place that runaway, homeless and abused youth could go where they would be safe, free from abuse and victimization. A place that would also work with caring parents and family members to mediate crisis and rediscover the bonds of affection that are the cornerstone of any loving, capable family. On August 8, 1988 the Harbor House Youth Shelter opened its doors.
The cornerstone of the agency is their Emergency Youth Shelter designed to meet the immediate needs of youth ages, 10-19. Services provided include:
--Temporary Housing
--Individual, Group, & Family Counseling
--Crisis Intervention Services
--Food & Clothing
--Medical Attention
--Parent & Teen Mediation
--Case Management
--Advocacy & Referral Services
--Drug & Alcohol Counseling
All services are free, voluntary, and confidential. Services are available to ALL youth and families in the community. All staff are qualified counselors trained in crisis intervention.
Penny has contacted Harbor House and was sent the attached list of "Wish List" items that the kids asked for. You will note from this list that it includes items that we and our children take for granted. But for these kids, these items are luxuries. At all BPWSOC meetings, we will accept any items on the list or you are always encouraged and welcome to drop off any items directly at Harbor House. The Administrative Office is located at 931 Fischer Boulevard, Unit 1, Bellcrest Plaza, Toms River, NJ 08754.
Thank you for your generosity and support.

To help get "Cathy's Law" Bill #A-2275 passed click here
Lucille Bates of Lucille's Country Kitchen and former recipient of our Women Helping Women Award has been the key person for getting Bill #A-2274 placed on the floor of the state assembly.
Lucille has been told that a letter writing campaign and a long list of signatures supporting such a bill is needed to get it heard on the floor.
The reason for the Bill is explained here: On October 23, 2009, one of Lucille's daughters was killed in a car accident 6 miles from her home on Route 72, Ocean County. Two of the first non-essential responders took horrific pictures of her gasping for her last breath and mangled. They posted these pictures on the internet before we were notified of her accident. This practice can be stopped, but I need your help.
Senator Christopher J. Connors wrote that he believes that the Bill will pass when presented to the two houses for final passage, barring any amendments that detract from the Bill's overall objective.
The issue now is to send letters and petitions to the chair and tell how important this is to be heard and acted on by our New Jersey Government Officials.
You can print a copy of the petition and collect signatures for this Bill and/or you can write a letter to the following:
Chairman of the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee
Assemblyman Herb Conaway, Jr.
Delran Professional Center
Building C, Suite 450
8008 Rt. 130North
Delran, NJ 08075
Phone: 856-461-3997
Reference A-2274
Note: Letters should be focused on having A-2274 posted in Committee.
