January 10, 2012 - Monthly Meeting with Guest Speaker,
Evey Stanziale from SCS Commodities Corp.
_
Evey spoke about his business SCS Commodities and his entrepreneurial work and what he's done to be successful. He said you have to learn from your failures and most importantly you need to do a business plan; each entrepreneur should understand and create a business plan; it should be written out. Evey emphasized that we shouldn't make it too big that it becomes a drag on what you want to do. Create a business plan that you know you have a very good chance of achieving. Don't overextend yourself. Don't go beyond your limitations. The biggest problems in economy the last few years have been that businesses have overextended themselves. If you don't have a cushion to sustain yourself, don't do it. You should try to raise money to help grow your business. You may want to go to people known as venture capitalists. Know your plan and stick by it. Realize your limitations; don't be a salesman if sales are not your thing; do what you're best at doing.
Rosalind asked a question about how she would go about raising capital. Evey said a good plan would include how many years in business; how she's grown her client base; include financial information; then put together a good professional business plan. If we can't write it ourselves, get someone else to do it for you. Doing well in business is a matter of networking and constantly selling yourself.

September 10, 2011 - Wine Tasting
We held our first wine-tasting fundraiser at Kristy’s in Waretown, NJ. Attendees sampled wines and pairing them with cheese and chocolate and a delicious cheese cake. We raffled a basket of wine, which was won by Gerri & Jack O’Connor and a 50/50 which was won by our very own Penny Miller. Everyone in attendance expressed their appreciation for a wonderful evening and we again thank our wine sommelier (sp) Julie Harms for making the evening a rousing success.
